Let’s spend an evening in the city.
We’ll make it a special occasion.
As Mum’s perfume drifts down the passage
Dad will watch TV over one more cigarette
We need to be ready to leave at six
Of course boys get ready quicker so I’ll shower last.
Is the phone diverted, gate locked, alarm on, everybody out?
Niggie sitting in the middle!
I can’t wait until I’m bigger so I can sit by the window.
Then I’ll sit behind Dad
There’s less leg room but my legs aren’t that long anyway.
Then I’ll get the best view
As we look for patterns in the city lights below
