She’ll wake up a little later because it’s Saturday
The morning sun creeps over to her side of the bed
She sings a song on the shower
And makes the bed ever so neatly
The pillows lie in perfect formation
Neatly arranged in case she has company
Toast
Coffee
Infomercials
A three step program to a happy life
Morning cartoons are not what they used to be
What happened to Care Bears, My Little Ponies, knights in shining armour and happily ever after?
Shopping malls are too busy, she’ll stick to her friendly grocer
He knows she’ll love these mangoes
She’ll buy flowers, a mixed bunch with bright yellow sunflowers
She’ll get a copy of The Big Issue and let the vendor keep the change
He doesn’t know her name but he appreciates that she already bought it this month
The flowers brighten up the living room
A light lunch and reading on the patio are the only plans she needs
Of course she does the dishes before reading
You never know who might stop by to visit
The phone will ring when she’s in the bath
She never gets there in time
She’ll stand shivering in a puddle
In case they call back to say that they have the wrong number
The video store has a great loyalty program
The Chinese take-away serves half-portions
A full meal is far too much for one person
Tonight’s entertainment comes at the small price of loneliness
She’ll lay down all the pillows on the floor
They’re only decorative after all
She slips into the right side of the bed
Carefully leaving the left side free
That side is reserved for the early morning sunshine
