The Tallest Tower

August 22, 2007

He started building her a pedestal
And she protested violently
For every brick she tried to remove
He would find five more to keep her tower rising
She made every effort to knock it over
But she only gave it more character like the one in Pisa

She sat at the top of her tower
Begging him to bring it down
She was never one for fairytales
She would never grow Rapunzel’s locks
But he kept on building
Adamant that she hadn’t reached the top

He tried to climb the tower he had built
But he made it far too tall
And from such a great height he would tumble and fall
The fall would hurt but never break him
So he would dust himself off and try again
While she shouted for him not to

People told him her tower wasn’t real
That things looked smaller from a distance
And he should walk away
But every step kept the tower rising
He used his distance to take a running jump
As he fell back down he could barely see her so high in the sky

If he could fly he would
But only angel’s wings could reach her now
So he will start to build instead
He will make a new pedestal
A tower wide enough for two
And as he rises he will pray
That she’s ready to enjoy the view
