The scale’s outstretched arms are strained
Such contrasting burdens must be held far apart
The brightest white fills the right plate
The darkest black balancing on the left
There is only so much weight the arms can take
Adding more and more black upsets the balance
Bringing the left arm within reach
As the darkness falls to the floor
The light spills over and follows suit
The scale sways as black and white rush to meet
The colours should mix and blend together
Covering the ground in a dismal grey
Instead they wrap around each other
Leaving a distinct line between the two
Even when the scales are tipped
There is no way to blend the black and white
