The Assault

December 2, 2007

Today I saw a man, assaulted by a monster
With one swift blow he fell to the flour
The blood in his mouth muffled his screams
As elbow followed fist after heel to the head
This victim lay helpless recoiling in pain
His attacker had fists fueled by fury and hate
Burying the man in self-pity and shame

Onlookers muttered under their breath
Afraid to speak up or provide any defense
The powerless man was saved by a stranger
And I have to ask,
Why did no-one do something sooner?

Two months earlier the tables were turned
When this helpless victim raped an unconscious girl
And again I have to ask,
Why did no-one do something sooner?
