Swinging my left foot over the edge was easy enough.
The first step isn’t the hard part.
It’s realizing there’s nothing to land on that’s tough.
My toes naively curl on board’s edge.
My safety is just behind me but there’s no going back.
What options do I have?
I can scream and flail my arms.
But that won’t stop the great unknown.
The depths below are not beneath me.
Well, literally they need to be.
Otherwise I’d miss completely.
A cracked skull in bloody water.
That’s not quite what I had in mind.
Trust that it will be okay.
A refreshing landing.
I’ll just stop screaming and do my best not to belly flop.
