Lilygreen & Maguire have a lot of young fans posting content on Tumblr, so the platform was the obvious choice when it came to building their official website.

Kate Brighouse designed a site that wasn’t obviously a Tumblr skin. The pressure was then on to create a theme and put it live as soon as possible. I managed to build the Tumblr theme and create all the static pages in one afternoon.

The sidebar includes a twitter feed based on the work by Janet Wagner. This allows fans to reply and retweet directly from the website.

The videos page simply displays all posts tagged as videos, reducing maintenance and allowing for easy sharing and reblogging.

I used Typekit to ensure that the menu and headings always use the correct font.

I launched the new site just before Lilygreen & Maguire set off on the Big Welsh Busk. As we wanted to give this high priority, I wrote some jQuery code to detect whether the user is on the home page. If they were then the Big Welsh Busk twitter crowd always displayed at the top of the feed, making it a sticky post.

The Tumblr theme was a hit with the Scallywags (Lilygreen & Maguire fans) and the band quickly picked up loads of new followers on the network.
