Paper Crows Build Videos Landing Page and Splash Lightbox
Paper Crows recently released a four track EP entitled ‘Build’. The band’s marketing manager commissioned Powster to come up with an innovative way to film and display videos for all four tracks.
Powster came up with a unique concept to play four YouTube videos at the same time. The viewer can change the soundtrack by simply moving their mouse over the relevant video.
It was my job to integrate the player into Paper Crow’s website. As papercrows.com is powered by Tumblr, I had to create a static page using a custom layout. The page also needed specific meta tags to ensure that sharing it on Facebook would embed the interactive player on a fan’s timeline.
The next step was to give the player maximum exposure on the home page of papercrows.com. I wrote a jQuery function to detect if the user is on the home page and whether they are loading the site for the first time since starting their browser.
Anyone who saw the videos loved them. After I tweeted about it including the band’s version of ‘Disarm’ I was retweeted by Billy Corgan. The video was then posted on the Smashing Pumpkins official Twitter and Facebook profiles. It was very satisfying to see Billy Corgan and The Pumpkins appear in the twitter crowd underneath the video.
