This was the second of three trips back to South Africa in a 12 month period. A few days in Cape Town followed by Christmas with family at Southbroom beach.

We flew to Cape Town the day after Nelson Mandela passed away, which was a difficult day to be far away from home. Fortunately we were able to attend the memorial at The Grand Parade (where he gave his first speech as a free man). It was powerful and humbling to witness people coming together and celebrating his life.

Family time at Southbroom was amazing, it was the first time I’ve shared Christmas with my family for a number of years. There is also nothing like swimming in the Indian Ocean on a hot Christmas day.
