Fenech-Soler have been held up in the studio, working on their sophomore album. To give the fans something to engage with the band put together a mixtape of some recent songs they’ve been listening to.

To present the tracks, I built a widget that pulls the songs in from a Soundcloud set and plays them alongside a slideshow of Fenech-Soler’s Instagram feed.

I modified the Slipknot widget I built a few months and had to do more work than expected. Instagram’s API can return a feed of photos using a hashtag with relative ease. A particular user’s feed, however, requires authentication. I wrote a php script to authenticate and retrieve the details I needed for the stream.

To enhance the sharing on Facebook, I added some meta data so that users can press the play button and launch straight into Soundcloud’s embedded player. The widget looks great and worked well to give the fans something to talk about this early in the campaign.
