Fenech-Soler Rituals photo and video feed

Fenech-Soler played a lot of festivals building up to the release of their sophomore album ‘Rituals’.

We encouraged fans to share their #FenechRituals on Instagram, Twitter and Vine, by pulling them all into a gallery on the band’s website.

I was able to repurpose the code I wrote for Jason Derulo’s No.1 campaign gallery, but had to make a number of significant enhancements. The gallery launched shortly after Instagram introduced video functionality, so we needed to include videos as well as images. We also wanted to pull in videos from Vine and Twitter.

Instagram’s API was easy enough to work with but decoding links in Twitter feeds can be a messy affair. The Embedly API was a great way to convert Twitter links into embedded content.

The gallery displays a number of square thumbnails (created with TimThumb). I used CSS to overlay a play button on any video content. Clicking on the thumbnail wikk launch a fancybox with a larger image or embedded video alongside the fan’s profile image and tweet/caption.

The gallery launched just before Fenech-Soler played Glastonbury and continued to grow as the campaign progressed.
